What are the common Chronic Neurological Disorders??- Chandan Hospital Lucknow

The nervous system is a complex, highly specialized network. From sight to smell and walking to speaking, our nervous system organizes, explains, and connects us to the world around us.

There are 6 common neurological disorders that affect people frequently:

1.      Headaches

2.      Epilepsy & Seizures

3.      Stroke

4.      ALS – Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

5.      Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia

6.      Parkinson’s Disease

  1. Headaches are one of the most common neurological disorders and can affect anyone at any age. If the headache comes on suddenly and repeatedly, you should consult a doctor as these could be symptoms of underlying conditions.
  2. Epilepsy & Seizures are common neurological disorders involving abnormal electrical activity in the brain that makes you more susceptible to having recurrent, unprovoked seizures.
  3. Stroke is usually due to a lack of blood flow to the brain, often caused by a clot or blockage in an artery. Many interventions can be done to stop a stroke but the most important of all those is time.
  4. ALS also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease is a rare neuromuscular condition that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Common symptoms are muscle weakness and twitching, tight and stiff muscles, slurred speech, and difficulty breathing and swallowing.
  5. Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia or memory loss is a common complaint, especially in older adults. Dementia is a slowly progressive condition and should be evaluated by a neurologist.
  6. Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects coordination. The symptoms include changes in posture, walking, and facial expressions early in the disease while cognitive and behavioral problems could develop later in the disease.
